1st National Sabong Photo Contest
Rolando S. Luzong

The 1st National Sabong Photo Contest conducted by the Federation of Filipino Photographers Foundation and Thunderbird Power Feeds was a historic event in Philippine cockfighting. It did not only provide prestige and color to an already glamorous sport, but also generated a more positive awareness of the industry of gamefowl breeding and sabong as our part of our cultural heritage.

The  contest ran from May 1 to June 30 and the judging was held July 7 at the Thundebrird Head Office in Mayflower Street in Mandaluyong City.

The competition was divided in several categories such as : 1) Sabong as a Filipino Way of Life; 2) Sabong & Thundebird Enertone; 3) Winning Moments with Bexan-XP and 4) My Gamecock  in which breeders can send photos of their gamebirds.

Prizes included P160,000 in cash and breeding materials from Sonny Lagon’s Blue Blade Farm.

Invited to be among the Board of Judges are Arnel Añonuevo of NFGB; Manny Berbano of Pit Games Magazine; Patchie Cruz of Sabong Star Magazine; Wilvin Sy of Cockfights Magazine; Francis Afable of Hataw Pinoy; Edwin C. Mapanao – Marketing Director of Univet; Charlie Cruz – Vice President of Rizal Gamefowl Breeders Association; officials of the FPPF and yours truly.
